The Geeky: G.E. Sailor Moon 2012 Star Locket Necklace Review

HELLO!
So, whoever said it was Autumn obviously lied because the weather here is borderline winter. It has been freezing and my eczema has popped up yet again. But other than that, I guess I should say life is rather good! I am trying to get my priorities all together since I started my second class. On top of that, my oven and upstairs dual fridge and freezer are broken. However, since the weather has been cold, our roast beef just chills outside. Moving on….today’s post is finally another geeky post and in spirit of the Sailor Moon 20th anniversary slew of merchandise, I present a review on Great Eastern Entertainment’s 2012 Release of Sailor Moon’s Star Locket necklace!

DISCLAIMER: I have not been paid nor asked to this review. The item was purchased with my own money for personal use. The review will be based on my own, personal, and honest opinion with no persuasion.

image-10So, I had purchased the locket almost a month ago on a sort of impulse buy for around $12.00 on Amazon. I have always loved Sailor Moon and I thought this was cute because I remember loving the concept of the star locket that Tuxedo Kamen/Endymion gives Sailor Moon/Serenity. Prior to purchasing, I did not read any reviews and I guess I should have because there was one feature that I was heavily disappointed in, but we’ll get to that soon.

image-11This is the physical necklace. It’s got a gold plated finish for most of it and a silver plated finish for the rim. There are a few very minor stains on the front of the locket itself, but I am honestly afraid that if I try to clean them that it will wear the metallic finish. The chain is relatively long, but the very end where the clasp and hook meet, there is a little bit more I guess to add for decoration or something…but that broke off the day I got it, so that was a little displeasing. It really didn’t live up to the expectations I had for it, especially when I learned that G.E. had postponed its release to make sure it was correct. But that wasn’t even the biggest problem I had with it.

image-13So, if you notice right where my thumb is…there looks to be a hinge where the locket would open up (in the manga and anime) and there would be a moon inside. Well, this hinge was entirely pointless as it doesn’t open up whatsoever. There was so purpose for it apparently and it was entirely frustrating for me to find out because that was the primary purpose of the purchase. That was what I enjoyed most of the locket in the anime. So, that was my biggest disappointment. It was like “Oh hey, try and open me. I have a hinge, but guess what? FALSE HOPE.” I get a tad angry just thinking about it.

image-12This is the back of the locket and there really isn’t anything to talk about in general. It has the Sailor Moon USA logo with the copyright initials underneath. It does look a bit cheap and there bits of metal that appear to be sticking out just a very slight bit, but I cannot feel it while wearing it, so that pose a big issue with me…other than making it look less authentic.

image-14This is basically me wearing the necklace. It is a bit too long for my preference, but I have no plans on wearing it…so, I don’t have to worry much about that. The locket itself looks to be about the size it would have been in the anime, so that really felt to be the only authentic part of it. Overall, this product was utter disappointment to me. I don’t regret buying it, because it is a Sailor Moon product, but I regret that it wasn’t properly made with the stains and pieces of metal sticking out in the back. I will probably just put this in the same box as my Sailor Moon towel and hope that I will find better items at KatsuCon in February.

Well, I hope you all found this review helpful. If you have any suggestions on better Sailor Moon merchandise, let me know! I know JList.Com has a lot of the Japan release merchandise, but most of it is on pre-order!! (Let me tell you all, I hate pre-order.) But, let me know what you all thought of today’s post! Have a great weekend ladies and gents!! Always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

The Foodie: Dining at Yechon in Annandale

Hello Hello!
It has been a fantastic day seeing as how it was the first day in a week where it didn’t rain and the sun was out. I decided to take my brother, Kyle, out to Annandale for Korean food and also to pick him up some vegan pastries at The Loving Hut. Although we were only up there for like two hours tops, we are so worn out! Kyle is still passed out in what he thought would be a nap and I am trying to stay up to do some working out since I ate quite a lot today! So, incase you didn’t notice, we did go to Yechon in Annandale for lunch and I felt like documenting my experience! Therefore…LET’S START!

DISCLAIMER: I was not asked nor paid to do this post. This is purely based on a personal experience and was paid for by myself with no discount or persuasion.
image-5For those who don’t know, Annandale is located in Northern Virginia past Braddock Road. It has pretty much an entire Korean community filled with the best bakeries I have ever visited since Japan as well as some really great restaurants. Now, I have never had Korean home cooking, so I can’t really say if it tastes authentic or not, but Yechon has never disappointed me when it came to making my mouth water. One thing Kyle was so surprised about was how friendly the staff was. Once you walk in, all the waitresses welcome you as you walk to your table. The manager tends to take you to your table and comes to your table personally if anything is wrong. It’s just a great atmosphere. The only thing I always cringe about is that it is ALWAYS packed. The parking lot isn’t huge, but I’ve always managed to find a spot somehow and magically. But I guess the food is so good that EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER wants to eat there.

image-6Yechon’s menu features both Korean and Japanese cuisine. They have a pretty diverse sushi menu, which I have yet to try. Their Japanese menu is rather small and really only features items like Bentou Boxes, Udon, and Yakisoba. I must admit though, the udon is actually quite good and the bentou boxes are packed full and there is always something different for a side. But, I rarely come for their Japanese food. I prefer the Korean menu because there are far more choices and…I came with intentions to eat Korean food. Simple enough right?

image-7If you haven’t had a Korean meal before, you normally get about 5 to 7 side dishes that you can add to your meal and rice or simply eat by itself. Our’s featured kimchi, spicy bean sprouts, a sweet potato mash, and 2 different seaweed dishes. Quite frankly, the sweet potato mash (made out of white potatoes, they just have a sweet coleslaw taste) and the seaweed dishes were not really picked at. I’m sure they were delicious, but I had my eyes set on the kimchi and bean sprouts which were AMAZING. Kyle had a field day with the sprouts, so I gave him the most of it since he’s vegan and can’t really eat kimchi due to the fish oil. The kimchi wasn’t as spicy as I had hoped, but it didn’t have the fishy aftertaste that some kimchi can get and the smell didn’t linger either which I truly do appreciate.

image-8So what in the world did I order? Well, I have had some pretty bad sinus infections thanks to the cold, wet weather here in Virginia lately so I felt led to order doenjang jjigae or fermented soybean paste stew. Now, one thing I love about Yechon’s doenjang jjigae is that they DO NOT put octopus bits in it if I say no meat or seafood. They put in all the yummy veggies such as jalapeños, mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, and onions. Along with some soft tofu, it is a great and spicy meal that will clear your nose right out, but not make you cry out of pain! It was so perfect that after I ate the veggies and tofu, I had to use the broth in my rice to make kind of a makeshift congee. Kyle ended up ordering the only real vegan friendly meal on the menu; vegetable yakisoba (you can see it in the side dish picture). He was pleasantly surprised by how great it tasted and ate every last bit. The waitress was surprised when she came by to check on us.

image-9Overall, my experience here was great like always and the food was mouth watering. I would definitely recommend coming here and guess what ladies and gentlemen…IT’S OPEN 24/7 EVEN ON HOLIDAYS. And there is the cutest bakery RIGHT NEXT DOOR that has an amazing green tea latte and fruit tart! So if you’re looking for lunch and dessert, I would highly suggest coming to Yechon.

For more information, visit Yechon’s Website: Yechon.Com.

YAY FOR FOODIE POSTS!  I am so glad I got the opportunity to spend time with my big brother before he heads out to California by the end of the year. We honestly had a great time at Yechon as well as Shilla’s Bakery and Breeze Bakery. It is always such a blast traveling up to Annandale and this time was no different. If you want to see some of my purchases and more pictures, be sure to follow me on Instagram at @TaylorRae319. I hope you all enjoyed this post and found it informative and what not! With that said, I hope you all have an amazing week! Be safe and always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

SimplyMe: Parties, Food, Chinchillas, & More!? *Surprise Announcement*

WHAT IS UP EVERYONE!
Now, I know I said that this would part of “The Geeky” series, but I really felt like relaxing this week and showing you all what I have been up to while contemplating what the next post for the series will be. I hope you all understand! But so much has happened and I told you all I would keep you in the loop with our engagement party and what not!!

imageSo as you all know, mine and Anthony’s engagement party was on Saturday and it was such a great time. My family also went to dinner at a local Carrabba’s and managed to achieve the picture of a lifetime…and I had my first experience with a chinchilla.

image-1I cannot believe how good of a time we all had at the engagement party. It was really awesome and I am so thankful to everyone who came and brought all their love and support for us. This was actually the first time mine and Anthony’s family had met each other…even after 3 years of dating. It sounds unusual, but it was a beautiful sight to see my parents talking to my future mommy-in-law and my brother-in-law and so on. My heart still flutters at the thought! Now I really can’t wait until the wedding. AHHH.

image-2Ah, yes. Dinner with the family is always a great time. We went to a local restaurant called Carrabba’s and OH MY LORD THEIR STEAK. That steak was cooked to perfection and topped with mushrooms and it was so good, I may have shed a tear or two during the eating process. But dinner was also filled with lots of laughs and conversation and in the midst of everything, my brother and I decided it would be great to take the picture above…seeing as how it’s been rather big in Japan. I still love the picture though.

image-3If you live in the DMV, more than likely you are currently experiencing rain. We’ve had almost a straight week of rain and although it was probably necessary, the temperature dropped and now my sinuses are going haywire. BUT, I did get to bust out my new bow-printed peacoat I found at Ross not too long ago. I am starting to notice the color change in the leaves though…I always feel to take obligatory fall photos.

image-4AH YES. It’s a Chinchilla!!! I have never seen one out and in person before but they are so freakin’ fluffy and soft! My mom’s client’s daughter brought them by while her dogs were getting groomed and they are truly such sweethearts. I would think about getting one had they not shed as much as they do. My allergies would not agree with me well, but it was always awesome to hold one for a wee bit. Thank you Cashmere, for being a champ with my over-petting.

So, that’s pretty much been my week…but there are a few things I would like to announce before ending this post:

ANNOUNCEMENT ONE: I have decided to start singing again, HOWEVER, I will be putting together singles and cover albums that will be FOR FREE. As to how they will be made available, I will keep you all in the loop with that as well. I am also hoping to make videos as well, but in due time.

ANNOUNCEMENT TWO: I will be attending KatsuCon in Maryland in February! I have been dying to go back to a convention especially since the thought of adding a geeky feature to the blog and so I will be documenting my experience and I am still debating on whether to dress up! Though, I hope you all know Anthony will be attending as well…if we can get him to dress up, it would be perfect.

ANNOUNCEMENT THREE: I am thinking about documenting my adventures in cooking that will be under “The Foodie” category. I have been trying to learn how to make different meals, but I still feel SUPER LAME when it comes to food. I also want to document my experience at restaurants. So, if you have any restaurants to try in the DMV area, let me know!

Those are my announcements! I hope they are a bit exciting and I cannot wait to show you all my progress in this thing called “life” so feel free to add suggestions and what not. Always remember that I am constantly catching moments on Instagram and Twitter, so feel free to follow both @TaylorRae319!! With that said, it is time for me to go to bed! Good night world and have a great weekend! OH and always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

A Wish List for Christmas (in October)

Hello, lovely people!
It’s been quite the crazy week already. In case you don’t live in the US, right now we are experience a government shutdown. Unfortunately for me, my job has been affected by the shutdown. Thank you Congress. But, it’s thrown me off just a tad bit. I suddenly have free time and I’m experiencing my first “mind blowing experience.” In my film adaptation class, we recently watched a film called “Memento” and I was confused after reading the short story, the screen play, and watching the movie. Someone had to slow down the film and explain all my questions to me…then I watched it again and it suddenly all made sense. So, I’m still going crazy in my mind, but let’s move on.
imageMy parents recently asked me what I wanted for Christmas. Honestly, my head isn’t really thinking that far ahead at the moment. I always feel awkward on how to answer. Like, I feel like I have everything I need…but my parents wanted to kind of give me one more Christmas where I get “spoiled” since the next Christmas or two will be geared towards paying for wedding necessities. So, what do I ask for? It is still super awkward. But, I guess here are few things to choose from…
image-1I haven’t really expressed this to anyone, but recently I have been wanting a polaroid camera to make kind of like a photo diary. I love having photos in my hands to look at rather than staring at my phone. It just makes everything easier to frame rather than getting everything printed up. Plus, I know they have pink ones…so I find this a pretty reasonable gift, yeah?
image-2I have been searching for a reasonably priced oversized sweater for me to wear on those cold, chilly days where my hands are frozen and seeking the warmth of hot cocoa in a mug. The picture above is actually from ModCloth.Com and I am so tempted to order it on my own. It looks beyond comfy and it’s an oversized fit. I LOVE IT. And I love the color Oatmeal. *cue Sound of Angels Singing*
image-3I don’t think you all realize how much I am in love with this skirt. I tend to gravitate towards longer skirts because of how short and stubby my legs tend to appear with shorter skirts and shorts. With this skirt, also from ModCloth.Com, I love the length and the floral pattern….Anthony considers this to be “grandma clothing” but I find that it suits me best. It would be perfect for Fall with the bold colors, but I could wear this in Spring as well with the print. So lovely.
image-4For those of you who don’t follow me on Tumblr or Instagram, I have been researching bentou recipes to help Anthony and I to eat better. Unfortunately, we don’t have proper lunch boxes. I’ve thought about us the tools and lunch boxes, but car and hospital expenses occurred and now I have to wait until the shutdown is over to even think about such a purchase. But, I know once I get some of the tools I will feel so motivated to start cooking healthy meals for the Hubs and I!! EXCITEMENT.

Well, that is it for today!! BUT NOT FOR THE WEEK! The next “The Geeky” post should be up by tomorrow, but Friday the latest! I think I’m going to do a post in regards to the new Super Smash Bros. game coming out!! Either that or I’ll complain to you all about “Memento” and I’m sure you all will find entertainment in my rant on how exceptionally confusing the movie is. With that said….to those of you affected by the Government Shutdown, my heart goes out to you and I hope we find a solution soon. For everyone, I hope you all have a fantastic rest of your week! Stay safe and always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂
