coffee & cats – visiting crumbs & whiskers –

I’m back from the dead, ya’ll.

I am truly sorry for my absence these past few months, but I bring with me cats and coffee. You’re welcome.

This past Sunday, my beautiful friend, Tawny and I decided to take a trip up to Georgetown for what we thought would be a tea date, but the place was booked for the rest of the day. SO OUR NEXT BEST OPTION was of course…cats. And with that, here’s a photo look at our visit to the only cat cafe in the DC Metro Area, Crumbs & Whiskers.

Walking inside, we were immediately greeted with the most gorgeous cat sitting on the counter. I was able to place a drink and macaron order and then we were headed upstairs to meet the many cats that grace the establishment. I immediately thought I was going to die because I typically have severe allergic reactions to cats…however, I did not and all allergies ceased until the next freakin’ day when I was sneezing all day at work.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The cats were all incredibly friendly and there were quite a few that were extra playful. The staff was wonderful and accommodating and answered any questions we had about the cats and how they’re taken care of and such. I even had an inquiry about one of their recent additions, Ru, a three-legged cutie patootie…but unfortunately, the new house we moved into doesn’t allow cats. Otherwise I would’ve walked home with a couple cats.

a day in maymont – italian & japanese gardens –

maymount title

Well long time, no see guys!

It’s been about a month and a half I would suppose…whoops. In all honesty, this past Summer seemed so non-stop! I had a class that required me to do 2-3 assignments pretty much every day and it took up a lot of my free time. BUT I’M BACK. With a super long post too, so ya’ll better enjoy it.

Anyways, this past weekend, a darling friend of mine named Tawny and I drove down to Richmond to visit the Maymont Estate specifically because we had read about their Japanese garden. WELP, we finally went down and did a collaborative photo shoot together and today I’m going to show you the pictures. TA-DA.

And I would call that a wrap! We had taken so many photos..almost 400 I believe and managed to get it down to 129 which was a miracle. Honestly though, these gardens were so gorgeous and there was beautiful weather…it was so perfect. Also a huge thank you to Tawny for being my partner in crime with this photo shoot and getting me out of my comfort zone.

I’m hoping the next post will be an anniversary geared post, but we shall see. 😉

Until next time guys!!

SimplyMe: A Well Needed Vacation (Part One)

Hello everyone!

Long time no see….

WHOOPS.

Yeah, I have to admit…it has been a while. I’ve been going through kind of a rough patch in terms of the blog. Honestly, this month marks three years since I purchased the domain for Simply Taylor Rae. I am so incredibly happy with the progression and how many lovely blog friends I have made over the years. However for a brief period, my mentality went south; I began to focus on how many followers I was gaining rather than producing quality work and enjoying what I do. It got to a point where I was incredibly discouraged with the lack of participation with my first giveaway and…I actually wanted to give up. I wanted to stop and just not even look at my blog.

But then, what has all this work been for? Three years worth of work that I poured my heart into wasn’t for waste. There are people who have read my posts and found them helpful or entertaining. Although they may not physically type it in the comments, I know in my heart that people are looking and sharing and enjoying it in some way shape or form. Although it’ll take me some time to rebuild the same motivation that I had throughout the last three years, I promise to continue to bring quality posts to the site and to enjoy each and every bit of it!

simplyme vacation

With that said, this past week, Anthony and I went to Luray, VA for a mini vacation since it’s been stressful for us at work and with finally planning the wedding. It was definitely what we needed and I managed to get some great photography shots and I want to share the photos with you all! I managed to take a lot of pictures, so I’ll break this post into two to save the scrolling.

outside the hotel

We had the pleasure of staying in a lovely hotel called The Mimslyn Inn. It was truly breathtaking with the gorgeous architecture and simply yet elegant rooms. However, the outside was most beautiful of all to me with a lovely view and an eye-appealing garden.

fancy dinner

For our first dinner, we dined at the hotel’s own restaurant; The Speakeasy. It was nice and the food was actually quite good. A bit on the pricey side for the items we ordered, but definitely worth it for the quality.

Cavern Entrance

During the second day of our trip, we spent a good portion at Luray Caverns. I honestly enjoy these types of touristy attractions that get you one on one with nature and natural formations…and surprisingly Anthony did too! It was such a beautiful sight to see.

Alrighty guys, I think that’s a pretty good place to stop for today! I’ll be doing a 3rd year anniversary post soon, I promise but I hope you all know how dear to me you all are and how I treasure each follower, reader, and supporter of Simply Taylor Rae! It’s been an awesome three years and I’m going to make the fourth year SO MUCH BIGGER AND BETTER! So watch out guys! Until next time…

SimplyMe: A Few Things that Make Me Happy?

Hello Hello Everyone!
Ah, it is finals week and I am so happy that I only have one more final! I took my Computer Applications/HTML Coding exam today and passed with 100% however I am less thrilled about my business exam on Thursday…there’s a long story with that. But I kind of wanted to do a post on things that make me happy. I have been so frustrated with college recently and with all the anxiety from that and other things, I’m stressing myself out to the point of stress-eating. Do you all feel like you get too overwhelmed with college? I always feel like I’m the only one because all of my friends are so motivated and driven, but I have no idea what I want to do or major in or anything. I feel like I’m going where everyone is telling me to go. So, I feel like reminding myself of the things that make me happy and try to get myself through the rest of this week without going crazy. So, let’s start~!33d7a511-fc11-4093-8c38-9a6f21325627_zps17013a06Actually, this picture makes me smile. It was taken in my hometown of Charleston, South Carolina (also the hometown of Stephen Colbert, yes I am proud.) at the Charleston Aquarium and thanks to Anthony’s awesome photography skills, he even captured the Cooper River Bridge. I love going to Charleston because it’s a city that embodies who I am; A beautiful city with Victorian architecture and a vintage feel. Maybe that’s why I cherish vintage things so much?49caad0a-9f25-464d-a178-df41b647b060_zps0bef3687
So, if you haven’t noticed already, I love to capture moments. Whether it be in writing or pictures, I have to capture the details in some form. I have been wanting to create a photo journal lately; like buying a polaroid camera, some cute washi (tape), and taping the photos in the journal and writing down my thoughts and why I took the picture in the first place. Like keeping a journal but with pics, right? Looking back at those moment and reading my thoughts is something I treasure and always brings a smile to my face.b48796d9-be5e-47ff-843c-e04f4e045c42_zps6c28675fI used to have a cat a few years ago. It seemed to strange to own one when I had such a severe allergy to cat dander and what not, but for some reason my cat never gave me too much trouble allergy wise. I couldn’t pick him up a lot and I remember his claw marks left terrible swelling in their wake, but he would always come by and make me pet him and give him a kiss. Unfortunately, during a trip to Charleston, he got out of the house and we haven’t seen him since. So, whenever I see anything with a cat print and what not, I can’t help but smile. I can’t own a cat now because my allergies have worsen, but cat prints and pictures are comforting enough for me I guess. Everything with a cat reminds me of him and the memories and wierd yet loving a cat he was.12e541c8-c7a7-415c-b2a3-811dfb8f8400_zps0e93f32aSo, as you all know…I enjoy blogging. It is possibly one of my greater passions in life. I put blogging and reading together because I love to read other people’s blogs as well! My favorite is actually Jenny who is a blogger from DC as well! Her blog is Sushi-Cat.Net and she blogs about pretty much everything I love…and her Tumblr is also quite brilliant I must say. Along with reading, I love to read book from Howl’s Moving Castle to 下妻物語 to Jaycee Dugard’s chilling memoir to the Bible. My preference varies, I suppose. But being in my room, with a window open for fresh air, relaxing instrumental music, and nice book or my laptop with me blogging makes me smile so big! Maybe that’s why I began a blog in the first place?

77b1271c-d698-4f99-b6cf-eb62d173542b_zps5670a60aYes, I must admit…he is one of the reasons I smile the most. Spending time with Anthony is truly a blessing. We may argue every once in a while and things will not always go the way we expected, but being able to be near him or next to him…I can’t help but smile. He always makes sure that I am ok and comfortable and happy. His smile makes me smile. His laugh makes me laugh. And so on. I sound so sappy, but alas it is true. He makes me smile in general, what can I say? Anthony, if you read this…YOU MAKE ME SMILE LIKE A BIG DORK. 🙂

Alrighty, that is it for today everyone! Just a head’s up, my next post will be a “Get Ready with Me” post since Saturday I am going to a friend’s wedding! I am so excited and my mom will be doing my makeup since my hands have been too shaky recently for weird reasons. So be on the look out! I may include a video as well! AHHHH.
Well, SUMMER VACATION IS HERE. I hope you all have an amazing weekend and remember to stay safe, have fun as well as Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂
Thanks for reading~! ❤
